Qiu Shihua
Qiu Shihua, born in Sichuan in 1940 and now lives in Beijing, Shenzhen and Sacramento. Starting from a blank painting, he painted white with extremely diluted pigment -- the white of canvas cloth. After repeated application, the pigment penetrated into the gap between the cloth. In fact, he treated the canvas with the infiltration and dyeing method of ink painting, bringing the attitude of Chinese culture towards ink painting into the oil painting.
In 1999, Art Basel held his first solo exhibition abroad, since then his works have been exhibited in galleries and public institutions around the world. Among which are the New York Museum of art(2001)、Kunstmuseum Bern(2005)、the Berkeley Art Museum(2008)、Hamburger Bahnhof-Museum für Gegenwart-Berlin(2012)、Metropolitan Museum of Art(2013)、Vancouver Art Gallery (2014);De vallard, Belgium (2018), etc. Additionally , his works have been exhibited in Sao Paulo Biennale (1996), Venice Biennale (1999) and Shanghai Biennale (2004). Qiu Shihua's works are collected by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Museum of Berlin, M +, ulyschke, Burger collection and other important private and art institutions at home and abroad.
